The Environmental Health Student Association (HM Kesling) at Universitas Dian Nuswatoro (Udinus) launched and opened a system known as Landslide Early Warning System (LEWS) equipped with the capability of detecting land movements, which could potentially cause landslides. The launching was conducted in Kalong, East Ungaran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program was initiated by a team consisting of 14 students of the Environmental Health Department and a student of the Information System Department. In the process, they managed to initiate two solar panels fuelled by batteries, which were connected to the app with the capability of detecting three categories of dangers including high, medium, and low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team leader of the Student Organization Coaching Program (PPKO) of the Environmental Health Student Association, Zahra Yulia, uttered that the features equipped in the app could detect land movements and potential landslides. Additionally, the app system had also been connected to solar panels planted in two different locations, namely in Bandungan and Dampu. Those two regions could be indicated as the regions with the most landslides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe app is also connected to the website owned by Kalong authorities, which will be managed directly by the local government. The residents could also gain access to the app by downloading it on Play Store to receive further notice regarding the land condition,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prior to this, the team had also held a discussion session about mapping programs based on the Geographic Information System and mitigating the landslide disaster by applying the LEWS method in Kalongan, East Ungaran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several prominent figures also made an appearance at that launching event hosted on October 5, 2023, including Dr. Kusni Ingsih, MM., (the Vice Chancellor of the Student Affairs at Udinus), Dr. Drs. Slamet Isworo, M.Kes., (the Head of Environmental Health Study Program and the team supervisor). Furthermore, representatives from Environmental Services of Semarang Regency and the Secretary of Kalongan were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Kusni expressed her gratitude for the support given by the local community of Kalongan. She hoped that the innovation created by the team could resolve various problems within Kalongan. In addition, the Student Organization Coaching Program could also serve as a platform for students to enhance their soft skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
