Three students of the Engineering Faculty (FT) at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) created prosthetic arms for disabled children. The device is designed with superhero-themed, which aims to boost children's self-confidence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prosthetic arm, named 'Handsome,' is designed to grasp objects through a flexing movement. Meanwhile, in order to release the grip, we can perform a simple extension movement. This device was made by Dinara Diaz Pramono, Muhammad Rifqi Hanif Ammrullah, and Widia Aulia Cahyani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dinara Diaz Pramono, the Leader of Karsa Cipta Student Creativity Program (PKM-KC) Team of FT Udinus, explains that \u2018Handsome\u2019 is a prosthetic device that can assist disabled children. With a futuristic design and superhero-like appearance, this prosthetic can uphold their confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur creation can be used as a device to play while bearing functions to hold objects. Besides that, we also added LED as a laser and flashlight. Last but not least, this thing is equipped with a water gun for children to play with,\u201d said Dinara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dinara revealed the making process of this prosthetic arm along with the tryout test took place at the Medical Laboratory of Rehabilitation at Udinus. It took them around six months to create the device, which started from July until November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHard work and great coordination from each of the members have resulted in a high-quality prosthetic arm called \u2018Handsome.\u2019 additional support from our lecturers encouraged us to complete the project,\u201d uttered Dinara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the making process of \u2018Handsome\u2019 devices, all three students are directly instructed by Wisnu Adi Prasetyanto S, T., M.Eng., a lecturer of FT Udinus. The making process of the device is included as one of their activity within the Karsa Cipta Student Creativity Program (PKM-KC). The activity was initiated by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (DGHERT) and Belmawa. Other than PKM-KC, there are two other types of PKM such as PKM-KI and PKM-VGK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the interview, Wisnu Adi Prasetyanto S.T., M.Eng., said that the student creativity program acts as a way to nurture students\u2019 creativity and innovation. Wisnu assumed that the event was inseparable from the student\u2019s character development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMoreover, the student\u2019s ability to think and act can be formed by being involved in this type of program activity.
