MANAHOT UDINUS EXPLORE MORE THE OPPORTUNITY TO OPEN CULINARY BUSINESS

To spread the entrepreneurial virus in the culinary field, Study Program of Hotel Management (Manahot) Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus) invited three famous Chef from Europe. On Wednesday, 19th of July, the Department of Hotel Management held Food Nation seminar: Opportunities in Food Industry on the first floor of H building, Udinus at Imam Bonjol Street, Semarang.
 
54 participants from high schools, vocational schools, hotel agencies and also Indonesian Center for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (BP3TKI) seeking for knowledge about food in this event. The three Chefs invited by Udinus were Chef Murtaza Alialakhia a Halal Food Consultant in the UK, Chef Patrick Milligan is also a Food Consultant from Ireland, and Chef Patrick Milligan Jr. the finalist of Master Chef Junior Indonesia.
 
Patrick recommended businessman in culinary field to start business from a small scope first such as selling foods that they love. "From the small scope that we create, we can start to make market or determine the business segment in culinary field," he explained. Chef with educational background in culinary is more dynamic in innovations than those who come by self-taught.
 
The same thing was also mentioned by Murtaza. Chefs with linear education background could easily made food innovations by combining the authentic flavor of Asian and European cuisines. As a meatball lover, Murtaza also explained that many restaurants in the UK have halal certificate from the Halal Food Authority (HFA). Many restaurants claimed the improvement of sales by having halal certificates because Muslim consumers could eat there too. "The procedure for obtaining halal certificate in the UK is almost similar in Indonesia," he explained.

Raden Arief Nugroho SS., M.Hum explained that the purpose of this event was to introduce people about how to start business in culinary industry. "As we know, the culinary industry is on the rise. Many opportunities can be opened through this culinary industry, "he explained. Not only could cook, a Chef must know the hygiene and the nutritional content of the food served. (* PR / mey)
