On Saturday, 16th of September, Asian Health Literacy Association (AHLA) inaugurated its representative office in Indonesia located at Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus) Semarang. Hosted by the Faculty of Health (FKes) Udinus, the inauguration was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Dr. Guruh Fajar Shidiq, M.Cs and General Secretary of AHLA Prof. Peter Wushous Chang, MS, MPH, ScD, FRCP.
The inauguration was held in the Meeting Room of H Building on the first floor which was also attended by the guest from Hospital and also other universities that joined AHLA. “It’s an honor for Udinus to be the representative office of AHLA in Indonesia. This means that Udinus's contribution, especially The Faculty of Health, in AHLA has been appreciated by the actors of health literacy in the world, "said Guruh in his speech.
AHLA itself is an association consisting of health literacy activist which has been established since 2013 in Taiwan. Followed by over 20 countries around the world, AHLA is a new incubator for health literacy on an international level. Since its existence, Udinus through the Faculty of Health has been active in various AHLA activities, and also achieved a grant in health literacy research. before Indonesia, in 2016 a representative office in Thailand was established at Khong Kaen University, so Udinus is the second representative office in the world for AHLA. "Hopefully, Udinus as the representative office of AHLA in Indonesia, can be a reference for health literacy in our country. And give a positive effect for both Udinus and AHLA itself, "added Guruh,
Peter Chang himself was impressed with Udinus' seriousness in promoting health literacy in Indonesia, and also the existence in every AHLA activity. "We want to spread more health literacy especially in Indonesia. With Udinus being the representative office of AHLA in Indonesia, it is expected to be a source of health literacy, a provider of data repository for survey needs and health literacy research, to build partners for health literacy, "said Peter.
Currently it is very easy to get health information, it can be obtained from health workers and from the internet. But accurate knowledge is needed from the confirmation of health information, so that people can apply healthy living behavior. "That's why health literacy is needed around the community, so that the public health rights can be fulfilled and the community is better able to determine health decisions," said Director of AHLA Indonesia Nurjanah, S.KM, M.Kes.
After the inauguration of AHLA Indonesia representative office in Udinus, there were workshop discussing the use of IT in health literacy, and also exchange experience in research on health literacy. (* Humas / ning)
