STUDENT ACTIVITY UNIT OF RUMAH SAHABAT UDINUS TEACH REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH TO ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
The spirit of high curiosity, was the impression of the 6th grade students of DAQU (Daarul Qur'an) elementary school when they were learning about reproductive health. This was the second time Rumah Sahabat Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus) was asked to give socialization at that school at Gergaji Palem Street, Mugassari urban village, South Semarang Subdistrict. A year ago Rumah Sahabat was also asked to provide socialization about the same thing to different students.
Not long ago, 24 students got a socialization about reproductive health for children especially age 8-13. The Students learn about puberty, how to take care of their reproductive health, the dangers of pornography, and mitigation to prevent all forms of sexual abuse or violation. The socialization was delivered using a lecture method using audio-visual media, discussion, and several videos related to each type of material were played.
Rumah Sahabat is a group of students joined in student organization which concern about teenage problems, especially on the issue of teenage Reproductive Health (KRR), Narcotics, Psychotropic, and Addictive Substances abuse (NAPZA), as well as HIV & AIDS. The cooperation with various sectors has been established such as cooperation with Youth Center Pilar PKBI Central Java, National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Central Java Province, AIDS Commission (KPA) Semarang City, AIRA House for AIDS suffers, network of peer educators in universities throughout Semarang City, and other related sectors. The educational class roadshow of KRR is held by Rumah Sahabat every year since 2012 in several vocational and senior high schools in Semarang City. But only the last 2 years this Student Activity Unit was asked to open an educational class in elementary school. Kismi Mubarokh, S.KM, M.Kes as the founder of Student Activity Unit of Rumah Sahabat said that this is important especially for 5th or 6th grade students, we have to prepare them to enter the puberty. "They should get information about reproductive health from trusted sources, not from the result of searching on websites that is not fully true," Kismi said.
The students had a high enthusiasm in listening to the materials given. After the socialization, the knowledge of the students were increased knowing that before the socialization only 5 students could answer some questions given by Rumah Sahabat. Not only the students, the school wants further activities such as counseling given regularly by UKM Rumah Sahabat Udinus. (* PR)
