PRESIDENT’S SPOKESPERSON GIVE LECTURE ON PUBLIC RELATION AT UDINUS
Journalists Forum of Central Java Province (FWPJT) in cooperation with Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus) held a Public Relation Seminar. FWPJT invited the Spokesperson of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Johan Budi, Sp as the main speaker in the seminar which entitled "Public Relations Transformation in the Digital Media Era".
In front of hundreds of students, Johan said that someone who works as Public Relation (PR) must know about social media. "PR should not only rely on mainstream media only, but also must follow the changes that occur at any time" explained Johan, the former spokesman of KPK. He said that government's public relations must follow the creative changes. About 132 millions of Indonesian people currently access the internet, and most of them use social media. President in some countries also use social media as a tool to communicate with public including the president of Indonesia, Jokowi. The current perception of PR is shifting, originally PR only analyzes newspaper clippings and also considered to be at the lower level, but now, PR becomes an important position and its existence must be close to the decision maker or leader. PR is also required to understand the stakeholders so the perceptions that come to the surface are accurate. "A public relation should not lie and cover up the facts of the data, but also don’t have to mention everything," added Johan Budi.
The way in which people can access information freely, creates a competition within the media industry. To survive, the media must conduct disruptive innovation so it will not be vanished by the competitors. Nowadays everyone can be a story teller, not only journalists who can convey information, but now, everyone can convey information through nowadays technology. Besides Johan Budi, Gunawan Perma, The Editorial Chief of Suara Merdeka was also invited as a speaker in this event, which was held on Tuesday, 28th of November 2017, in the hall, on the 3rd floor of E building, Udinus.
