A lecturer from the Animation Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) was successfully nominated in an international photography contest known as the 2022 Bara Api. The photography work captured by Deddy Award Widya Laksana, S.Pd., M.Pd., was showcased in the Haji Widayat Museum in Mungkid City, Magelang Regency, Central Java.
The exhibition lasts for a month, from July 23rd to August 23rd. Various works with diverse meanings were curated at the exhibition. The photo captured by Deddy entitled ‘Vesak Ritual at Borobudur Temple’ holds implied meanings within it. One of those meanings depicts the temple as a place that must be preserved due to its aesthetical structures.
Deddy Award Widya Laksana, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained the photo was captured in 2017 when he visited the temple, which was also one of the Seven Wonders of the World by UNESCO. He further revealed that he often participated in many photography contests, both national and international.
“I have certainly done my best efforts to submit the most unique photo no one else can capture. Every photo has its own aesthetical features, but the human interest within the photo is one of the most defining traits of my photographs,” he revealed.
Deddy also hoped for his photos to be able to convey that the Borobudur Temple did not only succeed commercially but also aesthetically through its beautiful panorama. He also encouraged students or his fellow lecturers with an interest in photography to participate in numerous photography contests.
“To my fellow faculty members, show your photography talents. If it has essentially become a hobby, you have no reason to be afraid to compete in national and international contests. Additionally, through this contest, you will be able to expand your relations,” he uttered.
The 2022 Bara Api International was participated by numerous photographers from various countries. There were 222 contestants, with roughly 2000 photos submitted to the event.
Dr. Khafiizh Hastuti, M.Kom., the Head of the Animation Department at Udinus, appreciated the accomplishment achieved by Deddy for being nominated in an international event. She hoped for other lecturers within her department to follow Deddy’s footsteps in some way.
“We are proud of the accomplishment earned by our colleague, Deddy, for achieving such a feat in an international contest,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Alex. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
