In the momentum of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia, two athletes from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) brought two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2022 ASEAN University Games (AUG) Thailand. The medals, bestowed to the Indonesian contingent, were earned by Aditya Tri Syahria (a Communication Science student) and Dinda Putri Lestari (a Management student).

The medals were earned in two different sports branches, including the Wall-climbing and Taekwondo branches. The first gold medal was garnered by Aditya in the men’s group relay category, and the silver medal was in the men’s single-speed category. The second gold medal was acquired in the Taekwondo branch of the women’s Kyorugi -73kg category by Dinda.

Those two students claimed the medals by defeating athletes from various countries, including Thailand and Malaysia. The medals led Indonesia to secure the third position with a total of 109 medals on Friday, August 5th, 2022. The 2022 AUG lasts from July 24th to August 7th, 2022 at Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand.

During her interview, Dinda expressed her pride in being able to achieve the gold medal for the Indonesian contingent. She revealed that consistent training was the key to winning a medal in international sports events. The 2022 AUG served as an opportunity for her to observe the playstyle of athletes from different countries.

“I’m glad to represent Indonesia and Udinus in an international event to compete against other athletes from various different universities in Southeast Asia,” Dinda uttered.

Meanwhile, Aditya had also prepared the last 1 to 2 months for this very moment. His preparations were proven to be remarkable by winning a gold medal for the Indonesian contingent. The medal served as a present for Udinus to commemorate Independence Day this August.

“Speaking of a target, I do have one, but I know it will eventually come as a surprise. The only thing within my reach is to practice routinely and give my best performance in the next event,” said the athlete from Purbalingga Regency.

In response to this astounding feat, Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs at Udinus, expressed her pride in those athletes for showing their best performances in an international event. Udinus will always provide its successful athletes with various stimuli, including scholarships for their efforts in making a name for the campus in both national and international events.

“In addition, we as the academic community will also provide facilities to motivate our athletes to achieve even more accomplishments. We hereby congratulate Aditya and Dinda for their success at the 2022 AUG. Hopefully, their victories can serve as an important lesson to grasp even better achievements,” she concluded.
