The Rumah Sahabat Unit at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) encouraged students of Central Java to be anti-drugs and wage a war against drugs. This activity was done in the form of a seminar to celebrate International Anti-Drugs Day, which was hosted in the auditorium located on the third floor of the E building.

The seminar was entitled ‘Stay Away from Drugs and Don’t Ever Try It!’ It involved hundreds of participants comprised of students and anti-drug activists.

On that occasion, three speakers were featured to discuss the dangers of drugs and ways to mitigate them. Those speakers were Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., (the Chancellor of Udinus), Lutfi Martinda S.I.K., S.H., M.H., (the Director of Drugs Division at Central Java Police Department), and Jamaluddin Ma’ruf, S. Farm., (a representative from the National Narcotics Board). The event was opened by a gong sounded by the chancellor, with the whole audience witnessing it.

During his presentation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., the Chancellor of Udinus, explained that 3 out of 10 drug users were students. In response to this fact, Udinus is currently recognized by the Narcotics Board as an anti-drug campus. The campus also routinely forces the academic community, including faculties and students, to conduct urine tests randomly to oversee the spread of drugs within the campus.

“By making our campus anti-drugs, students and their parents do not have to be afraid, as they can trust us to prevent drugs from coming in contact with them. This seminar and anti-drugs declaration also serves as our tangible efforts in creating a young generation free from drugs,” the chancellor revealed.

Jamaluddin Ma’ruf emphasized that anti-drug education must be provided to youngsters as young as possible. This is done for the youngsters to have the courage to refuse any form of narcotic activity. Youngsters should not be in direct contact with drugs, as it is still among the biggest national threats.

“To prepare our young generation to excel, this kind of event must be routinely hosted. Both governmental bodies and academics bear the role of protecting students from any negative impacts caused by drugs,” he added.

The seminar was closed with an agreement with anti-drug support. The three speakers signed the agreement, alongside representatives from various Student Units at Udinus, as well as students.

As additional information, in 2018, the Rumah Sahabat unit at Udinus was awarded by the Central Java Governor for their concerns in mitigating and preventing the spread of drugs within the campus and public space. On that occasion, Kismi Mubarokah, S.KM., M.Kes., (the Supervising Instructor of the Rumah Sahabat Unit) was also present, alongside Mayvita Ayu Mustika (the Leader of the Rumah Sahabat Unit) and Arie Maulana (the head organizer of the seminar).
