The 2023 English Competition optimized human resources through the utilization of the English Language. The English Competition was a part of the 2023 Dinusfest initiated by the English Student Association at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). It was hosted in the TVKU studio on the second floor of the E building, on January 24th, 2023.

The event was themed ‘Languange Impacts on Humanities’. There were also several sub-themes that could be chosen by finalists, namely The Function of Mother Language, The Function of International Language, and The Relations of Language and Culture. The competition was participated by dozens of students from various high school scattered around the country.

Diffa Aulia Astiningsih, the Head of the Committee, explained that there were several different aspects in the 2023 English Competition compared to those of last years. One of which was this year’s English Competition was hosted both online and offline, with an immense enthusiasm radiated by the participants. The selection stage was held online, whereas the grand finale was conducted offline.

“Out of dozens of participants, we selected which participants were qualified enough for the finale. With TVKU facilitating this competition, finalists would late be obliged to showcase their best performances before the judges,” Diffa explained.

There were also several contest categories to choose from, including essay writing, speech contest, story ratelling, and news anchor. Every category would have their own assessing criteria.

Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs, explained that this competition served as a platform for participants to hone their English skills, particularly by introducing them to the facilities possessed by Udinus.

“In addition to facilities, Udinus also often provides scholarships to accomplished students, both academically and non-academically. Through this event, we can motivate high school students to continue their studies to higher degrees,” she concluded.

English competition is one of the competitions featured at the 2023 Dinusfest. Dinusfest itself is an annual event initiated by Udinus. In 2023, this event saw an increase in participants to 5124. Furthermore, there will also be a closing ceremony featuring a singer from Jakarta, Denny Caknan, performing for these students on January 29th, 2023. (Wtdn/Ika. Foto: Dok. HMBI)
