Turning your hobby into your profession is a dream shared by many, one of the best examples is a photographer. Every nearby object can be documented in a captivating photograph. Jeremi Anung, an undergraduate student of the Informatics Study Program at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Semarang, is interested to learn more about photography.
The man known as Jeremi stated that his interest in the photography industry had been around since he was an eighth-grader. He learned about photography by himself through watching a YouTube tutorial and several online information. The constant learning process made Jeremi able to pursue his dream job as a photographer.
For more than 5 years, the student of the year 2021 cohort undertook his photography job. Along with his friend, he was part of the management of a wedding organizer, “In addition to that, I also provided photography services for events such as birthday parties and graduations, with a per-hour charge for my customers. Furthermore, I provided a photo service with the price rates of three thousand rupiahs per file,” explained Jeremi about his early period of starting a business in the photography industry.
For 8 years Jeremi had dove into the photography field, and so many achievements he had accomplished. His picture had selected as the top 8 national ‘Canonphoto Marathon’ which was held in 2019 in Jakarta.
In order to improve his ability and relation, Jeremi actively participated in some of the biggest photographer communities across Indonesia. “I was part of some organizations such as Instanusantara Indonesia, Insan Indonesia, Let’s Hunting Jogja, Hayamoto, and Fotografer Indonesia. A few of my photos were uploaded on an Instagram account @japhotoa,” said Jeremi, born in Semarang, on May 22nd, 2001.
Although he involves in various external photography communities, Jeremi actively engages in campus organizations as well. He holds a significant role within the 'Pers Kampus Wartadinus' Student Activity Unit (UKM), specifically as a member of the photography division. This position perfectly complements his passion and exceptional skills in working with photos.
“As a person who is studying at campus as well as running a business, I have to manage my priority and be aware of my limits. At Udinus, I can meet so many people, I can add more relations and expand my photography business,” said Jeremi.
Jeremi left a piece of advice to his fellow students who want to seek in the photography industry. The main factor to do something is to have a strong determination and a strong mind to not easily give up.
"Every day, photo evolves. Having no camera is not an excuse anymore. You can capture good photos using just your phone camera. The key is to persistently seek a trustworthy learning source," he concluded.
