THE GOVERNOR OF CENTRAL JAVA GAVE AN APPRECIATION TOWARD ‘BECIK-KU’ DURING THE OPENING OF PORPROV XVI, AN INNOVATION CREATED BY THE ENGINEERING FACULTY AT UDINUS

Innovation created by the Engineering Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) known as Udinus Electric Pedicab (Becik-KU) got an appreciation from Ganjar Pranowo, the Governor of Central Java. The pedicab was showcased at the opening ceremony of the Central Java Sports Week (Porprov) XVI in Joyokusomo Stadium, Pati Regency, Central Java.

The electric pedicab was exposed as a form of collaboration between Udinus and the government in response to optimizing renewable technology usage on vehicles. Becik-KU uses electric-powered generated by utilizing batteries equipped with solar panels on top of the pedicab. Then, the pedicab with the capacity of 4 people will automatically work using a particular app.

Heru Agus Santoso, Ph.D., the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, added that Becik-KU would officially operate in Kota Lama, Semarang, serving as a contributor in the transportation and tourism sectors. The pedicab would be able to tour around Kota Lama without an operator. In front of the pedicab, there is a camera serving as a road detector.

“We also included a feature to explain the history and uniqueness of various landmarks in Kota Lama. Such as the pedicab will show the passenger on-screen information regarding Blenduk Church as it passes the landmark,” he explained.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., the Chancellor, was proud of the innovation as it was appreciated and tried directly by the governor. The pedicab was showcased before thousands of athletes and the general public during the opening ceremony of Porprov XVI Jateng.

“We hereby express our gratefulness for the given appreciation, hopefully, Udinus will always be given the opportunities to contribute and implement the University Tri Dharma which would benefit the general public,” the Chancellor uttered.

Having been interviewed during the opening ceremony, Ganjar conveyed his gratitude toward the lecturers and students of Udinus for the Becik-KU innovation. He revealed that through this innovation, EBT Optimization would be able to be executed in the transportation and tourism sectors. He also emphasized that the contribution of all parties involved, including students, could serve as an influence toward the potential of renewable energy.

“Becik-KU Project is phenomenal as it involved many parties, including students, which serves as a stepping-stone for other students to innovate in the EBT Optimization from other sectors,” he concluded.

Previously, Becik-KU had also been showcased at the opening ceremony Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) located at the Semarang City Hall and attended by the mayor. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: YT Diskominfo Pati)
