DR WARTO, WHO SUCCESSFULLY ATTAINED A DOCTORAL DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AT UDINUS, DEVELOPED A MODEL TO ENHANCE NER PERFORMANCE

The Doctorate of Computer Science Program at the Faculty of Computer Science at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) once again emerges another student with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.84. This student is Dr. Warto, who successfully achieved a doctoral degree due to his dissertation entitled ‘Model Transformer-Word2vec-Cnn-Attention to enhance the performance of Named-entity Recognition (NER) based on Machine Learning and Deep Learning.’

The student, better known as Warto defended his dissertation at the open session which took place in the meeting room of the first floor of the H building at Udinus. The session was directed by Prof. Dr. Supriadi Rustad, Msi, who served as the Chief Examiner and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Udinus. It proceeded smoothly without any technical issues. With Warto's success in the session, he became the sixth graduate of the Post-graduate Computer Science Program at Udinus this year.

The Head of Doctorate of Computer Science Program, Purwanto, S.Si, M.Kom, Ph.D., said that the study program had various advantages that could be beneficial for all students. Starting from the high-quality teacher to the proper infrastructures, all of these are meant to assist students while upholding their learning experience. This is proven by the accreditation owned by the Doctorate of Computer Science Program at Udinus which has been accredited with a 'Very Good' score. The accreditation was obtained in accordance with the Decree (SK) No. 11405/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/D/X/2021. From the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT).

Purwanto also extended his congratulations to Dr. Warto who earned his doctorate with cum laude predicate and was able to defend his dissertation before the examiners. "We provide extraordinary guidance and teaching to all students of the Post-graduate Computer Science Program at Udinus," he explained.

Purwanto, S.Si, M.Kom, Ph.D., also said that the doctoral degree could provide benefits and contributions to Indonesia. Through the study program of Doctorate in Computer Science, Udinus is dedicated to an ongoing commitment to enriching our nation's individual knowledge and fostering globally competitive individuals within the realm of technology.

"We take immense pride in supporting our students of Postgraduate of Computer Science on their journey to attain their degrees. This study program reflects our unwavering commitment to enriching our nation's knowledge and nurturing highly competitive individuals within the field of global technology," stated the Head of the Doctorate in Computer Science program at Udinus.

Successfully defends dissertation and develops a new model

Dr. Warto successfully attained his doctorate and also became the fourth graduate of the Postgraduate of Communication Science at Udinus. In fact, he was also able to hold the cum laude title with a GPA of 3.84. During the open session, he managed to defend and publish his dissertation entitled 'Transformer-Word2vec-Cnn-Attention Model for Improved Performance of Named Entity Recognition Based on Machine Learning and Deep Learning.' According to Dr. Warto's explanation, in his research, he researched and developed a model that can improve the performance of Name-entity Recognition (NER) with Indonesian language datasets.

“NER itself has the role of extracting information from unordered data. Through my method which is currently still in development, a computer can recognize the entity in a single text within an institution, name of address, and person’s name,” said Dr. Warto.

During the research process, Dr. Warto developed that method starting from fundamental idea until experiments that took him three years to complete. Now, his hard work has paid off, evident in his high GPA, which serves as a proof of his satisfying result status. Dr. Warto acknowledges that the Postgraduate Program in Computer Science at Udinus offers an exceptional learning system, with dedicated and supportive lecturers who guide their students towards achieving similarly satisfying results.

“I did not doubt a single thing when I first enrolled for the Postgraduate PDIK Program of Udinus, I knew it because Udinus is the best university in Central Java when it comes to Information Technology. Not only that but the institution and accreditation are also promising,” he said.

Throughout the development of his dissertation, Dr. Warto was accompanied by three promotors including Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom, Purwanto, Ph.D, and Dr.Muljono, S.Si, M.Kom.
