The Tobacco Free Community Bureau (TFC) at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) was determined to improve the competency of fishermen and their families through training, instruction, and economic productivity. This program was implemented for the residents of Tambakrejo as a part of a recent government program named the Student Organization Coaching Program (PPKO).

At that program, Udinus had also signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) allowing Tambakrejo to be the implementing village. The agreement was undergone by Dr. Nurjanah, S. KM., M.Kes., (the Vice Dean of the Health Science Faculty at Udinus) and Sukiswo (the Village Chief of Tambakrejo).

Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., (the Head of Student Affairs Bureau) also made an appearance alongside several work partners including from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Drs. Endro Pudyo Martanto, M.Si., a representative from Semarang Fishery Affairs Agency, Ir. Hesti Dwi Setyaningrum, M.Si., and dr. Yuni Susani representing the Gayamsari Health Center, the Healthy Family Forum, and the UI Putri Laut.

“For the environmental sector, we conducted mass tree planting and implemented the KSB structure. As for the health sector, there was an Additional Food Sustaining program for toddlers and pregnant women. Two of those sectors involved partners from the Regional Disaster Management Affairs Agency (BPBD) and the Public Health Center of Gayamsari.” she explained.

Dr. Nurjanah, S.Km., M.Kes., the Vice Dean of the Health Science Faculty at Udinus, emphasized that Udinus would occasionally supervise and evaluate the program. According to her, the Student Organization Coaching Program serves as a platform for students to learn many things off campus by resolving real-world problems residing within the local community of Tambakrejo.

“Hopefully, our students could address every problem before them in an attempt to improve their soft skills . We also wished for this program to keep running all the way to its regeneration,” she added.

In addition, Sukiswo, the Village Chief of Tambakrejo, thanked Udinus for its participation in dispatching students to mitigate several problems revolving around Tambakrejo. One of those problems was the flood disaster, which occurs annually.

“Through this program, the residents become more harmonious and solid in combating our problems. Wishfully, Udinus could keep conducting social services not only in Tambakrejo but also the whole city of Semarang,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. Pers Kampus Wtdm)
