Amelia Syafira – A Film and Television Student at Udinus

Ever since she was in high school, Amelia Syafira has been fond of the film and story making industry. Amelia, known famously as Ameng, is a student majoring in Film and Television at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro. Ameng claimed that through audiovisual media, she could essentially express her utmost feeling.

Committed to becoming a filmmaker, Ameng decided to pursue this particular field by studying at Udinus.

“Udinus is my best choice to study, as well as shape my future because of its strategic and accessible location. Moreover, its Film and Television Department helps me pursue my dream of becoming a filmmaker,’ Ameng revealed.

During her studies, Ameng, born in 2004, revealed that she had garnered countless pieces of knowledge for her filmmaking career. For example, she learned how to be a producer, director, scriptwriter, and distributor. Furthermore, she also stated that she was able to tie relations with many people on campus, allowing her to exchange ideas with others concerning cinematography.

By the time she became a second-year student, Ameng had showcased her capability in garnering accomplishments. One of which was first place in the Best Ensemble Cast category at the 2023 Semarang Gawe Film, with her film also being funded.

“It took essentially everything for me to be at this point, including, my lack of sleep and time. This is because I could not afford to fail anyone so I determined not to give up and finish this project,” she explained.

Furthermore, she also won first place in the Best Short Documentary category at the 2nd Golden Semar Award, initiated by the Indonesian Art Institution, Jakarta through her film entitled A Nation within the Ocean.

Production Challenges

Ameng uttered that she encountered several problems in producing her films, including undeveloped ideas, as well as statements.

“In addition to that, time can also be a problem. It is either the tricky preparations, unpredictable weather, or other factors. To mitigate this problem, I normally discuss it with crews,” she uttered.

Despite these hardships, Ameng is still passionate about her works and pursuing his career as a filmmaker. Moreover, she also encouraged her fellow students not to give up.

“Don’t ever give up, as we will never know what’s ahead. It is like lyrics conveyed by Hindia ‘Imagine if we never gave up.’ Also, don’t be easily satisfied and give up, since we live to improve and learn many things,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Humas Udinus)
