The Doctoral Management Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) hosted a public lecture as a way to educate freshmen concerning insurance. The lecture featured Munawar Kasan, the Supervising Director of Public Insurance and Reinsurance at the Financial Service Authority (OJK), as the main speaker.
The public lecture employed the theme of ‘Sustainability on Insurance and Reinsurance Service Business in Facing Digital Business Challenges.’ The lecture took place on the sixth floor of the I building on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, with dozens of freshmen and faculty members attending it.
During his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Amron, S.E., M.M., the Head of the Doctoral Department at Udinus, stated that the public lecture was important for students to motivate them to produce relevant and excellent academic works. In addition, it also pushes students to keep conducting research and improving their publications.
“We focus on resolving challenges faced by the current higher education sector, particularly in producing outputs are not limited to dissertations or theses but also reputable international journals, indexed conferences, and other products, including copyrights and books,” he highlighted.
“The phenomenon stated by the Financial Service Authority in this public lecture can be a relevant research topic. This is because there are still many gaps concerning insurance literacy within the public’s reach, and this research object can also be further developed,” he uttered.
The Importance of Understanding Insurance
Meanwhile, during his presentation, Munawar emphasized that the lecture was a part of the effort provided by the Financial Authority to improve literacy concerning insurance among academicians.
The public lecture aimed to educate students about insurance, the benefits of it, and steps that must be taken concerning insurance. Munawar also pushed the freshmen to be more active in conducting research relating to the development of the insurance industry.
“We, as the representatives of OJK, humbly support research conducted on campus, particularly those relating to insurance. Hopefully, what we discussed today will benefit not only both students and faculty members but also the public as a whole, especially the importance of insurance literacy.
On the same occasion, Munawar revealed that the insurance industry in Indonesia constantly showed major positive improvements, both in terms of assets and premiums. As the supervisor, the Financial Service Authority will always ensure the insurance industry holds integrity and healthy practices. By doing so, the industry will keep giving optimal contributions to the national economy.
