Students from various high schools in Semarang attended a training program concerning financial and investment hosted by the Capital Market Study Group (KSPM) at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). The program introduced students to several investment concepts in capital markets, including stocks, mutual funds, and obligations, and the importance of financial management from a young age. The training program took place on Monday, November 25, 2024.

The program was entitled ‘KSPM Udinus Goes To School: Investment Adventure, Discover Your Financial Treasure.’ It was held at the Hall of Permata Bangsa School (PBS) Semarang at Jl. Setiabudi Semarang. Furthermore, the program also featured Akhmad Nurayanto, a speaker from the Indonesian Stock Exchange of Central Java.

Fahmi Ali Zaka, the committee head of the event, explained that the program was routinely hosted annually by involving high school students. According to him, involving them was a perfect decision as high school students have reached their productive stage, with many of them having already had Citizen IDs.

“They learned various things, including financial management and how to protect their financial situations from inflation. We want to guide them not to get involved in online loans or shady investments,” Fahmi revealed.

Dr. Usman, S.Si., MT., M.Si., the Vice Dean of the Economics and Business Faculty at Udinus, stated that this event served as a strategic step to educate students of Permata Bangsa School and other high schools concerning the realm of investment. According to him, introducing them to capital markets and financial management would help students establish healthy and systematic financial habits.

With this training program, Dr. Usman also hoped to guide the young generation to not only be financially aware but also to be critical in responding to various investment offers. Furthermore, he emphasized that this knowledge was important for students to avoid shady investment practices.

“We want students to understand how to properly manage their financial matters, so they could protect themselves from illegal investments. Not only that, students are also expected to be independent individuals with financial experiences and the ability to face economic challenges in the future,” Usman uttered.

He also added that financial literacy among the young generation must also be improved through similar programs. “This program will affect students in the long term. If they had the basic idea of investment and financial management, they would be more prepared to face real-world issues and manage their financial resources wisely,” he concluded.

The Market Day Program

Hesti Prasetyaningrum, the National Principal of Permata Bangsa School, expressed her appreciation to Udinus for hosting the event. Hesti also explained that the school also had the Market Day program to teach students the basics of entrepreneurship.

“We hereby express our gratitude to the Capital Market Study Group (KSPM) at Udinus. In addition to education, this program also provided a platform for our students to connect with the private school community in Semarang. Moreover, we also occasionally encourage our students to sell their products in the school canteen to manage their financial status, as well as help them to be more productive. This activity aligns with the training program provided by the KSPM at Udinus,” she added.

The program also received a generally positive reception from students, and they have also gained new insight into investment. At the end of the program, many students were also seen raising their hands to ask the speakers questions. On that occasion, Dra. Galuh Wijayanti, M.Pd., a high school superintendent from the Education and Culture Service of Central Java, was also present. (Humas Udinus/Alex. Foto: Humas Udinus)
