Dwi Devangga, an Electrical Engineering Student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), has been pursuing his passion as a taekwondo athlete since he was in junior middle school.

Devangga holds the motivation to develop his self-discipline and physique. Not only that, he also said that a strong mentality was also required and honed in taekwondo.

“I feel challenged to hone skills as a taekwondo athlete. Through taekwondo, I want to show my parents that I’m capable of being a capable athlete through my talents,” he revealed.

According to Devangga, the most interesting aspect of taekwondo was poomsae. Poomsae itself is a part of technicality in taekwondo that can be defined as a combination of movements that use consistent foundational basic techniques, including attacking and defending.

“Interestingly, Poomsae can also boost our patience and self-control, as we need to focus on our techniques and balance in every movement. Paying further attention to our precision and physical power is also important to improve our performance during the match,” he highlighted.

As a taekwondo athlete, Devangga, born in Indramayu in 2004, stated that he struggled to maintain his firmness during the match. Moreover, he also competed against other exceptional athletes. However, he stood steady by focusing on his training and boosting his confidence.

Focus and Persistence

Devangga always holds his persistence and focus in his training, which would come to fruition several times. This is because he has accomplished lots of accomplishments, including Third Place in the 2022 West Java ITN OPEN and Second Place in the National ISSC 2 Championship by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Despite being an athlete, Devangga does not abandon his status as a student. He is also active in various organizations and units, including the Taekwondo Unit at Udinus, the Electrical Student Association at Udinus, and the Dinus Robotic Club (DRC).

Recently, he achieved a gold medal and a bronze medal at the National KBBP Championship by the Indonesian Police Department. Devangga won the medals by focusing on his poomsae training, particularly on movement details, as well as his physical and mental conditions.

“I also had to make sure that my schedules didn’t overlap with each other. If I had a campus assignment, I would prioritize it before I go back to my training. In addition to that, it’s also important for me to have enough rest so I can maintain my physical health,” he uttered.

In the future, Devangga hoped to inspire the young generation to engage in athletic branches, particularly taekwondo. He also stated that he would improve his skills to aim for international accomplishments.

“To my fellow students, please don’t give up on your passions despite the hardships. With enough focus and effort, you will be able to climb even the tallest tower basically. Keep your spirit and never surrender,” Devangga concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
