The Communication Science Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) routinely pushes its students to showcase their creativity in producing outputs for the Musical Communication Course. These outputs encompass Jingles and Singles. Recently, students showcased their works at an event entitled ‘Komcircle Show.’ It took place in the Auditorium on the seventh floor of the H building at Udinus, on Tuesday, January 16, 2025.
On that occasion, 30 junior Communication Science students were divided into five different music groups. Similar to previous years, those five groups must write their song lyrics to communicate their messages. This was stated by Swita Amalia Hapsari, M.I.Kom., the Coordinator of the Musical Communication Course.
Swita revealed that this year, students were tasked to produce jingles for two partners from the government. Three of these jingles were for the Health Service of Semarang City, with the theme of ‘Mental Health.’ Meanwhile, two others were for the Cultural and Tourism Service, with the theme ‘Let’s Visit Semarang.’
“The jingles will be assessed by representatives from these two partners of the Communication Science at Udinus. If the jingle is as good as previously expected, the partners will continue this partnership with us from the recording and copyrighting processes,” Swita stated.
In the previous year, jingles made by students have indeed succeeded with the theme ‘Stunting.’ These jingles were played in all health centers around Semarang.

In addition to jingles, students were also obliged to create singles as a form of portfolios. Several singles have even been distributed to streaming services, like Spotify.
“Currently, they have recorded their singles, and are currently waiting for approval from the aggregator for the singles to be launched on the digital platform. As of now, there have been 15 singles produced by our students,” Swita revealed.
Expanding Relationship with Partners
On the same occasion, Dr. Rahmawati Zulfiningrum, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., the Head of the Communication Science Department at Udinus, expressed her appreciation to students for the dedication and creativity put into their projects. During her opening speech, she further exclaimed the urgency of their projects’ sustainability.
“Hopefully, these works do not only serve as a theory implementation but also inflict benefits on the general public. We hereby express our gratitude to our partners for supporting our students’ work,” she uttered.
Rahma hoped that this partnership could expand itself to various other aspects, including a collaboration with the creative industry and big brands to produce both jingles and singles, so that they would hold more value in the market.
“Students of the Communication Science Department must prove that any form of arts can serve as an effective platform to communicate messages, as well as a contribution to the public. We want the Komcircle Show to also embody the synergies between the education sector and the public in addition to merely a song-launching event,” she concluded.
As additional information, those five groups were Prowl, Purple Buzz, S.D.F., Mentari Kuda, and Rain 41. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
