Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is among the most important things for Public Health students at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). In an attempt to practice, the campus invited CV Jaya Protect, a company specializing in OSH, to train students in practicing OSH.
65 senior public health students at Udinus participated in the training program, with a concentration in OSH. It took place in the multipurpose room located on the first floor of the D building at Udinus for the theoretical session. Meanwhile, the practice session was conducted at the Mangga Dua parking lot located at Jl. Sadewa, Pendrikan Kidul, Central Semarang, Semarang City.

Izzatul Alifah Sifai, S.K.M., M.P.H., the head organizer, explained the importance of involving professionals in overseeing the practice session. At the training program, students learned how to extinguish fire to mitigate such disasters at workplaces.
“At the program, students were obliged to use a wet sack and small fire extinguishers. We hosted this practice session as an effective method to educate our students concerning Occupational Safety and Health (OSH),” Izzatul uttered on Monday, January 13, 2025.
As additional information, Izzatul explained that this training program could serve as an initial step before students could engage in any internship program. This is because, for a Public Health student, basic understanding and implementation of OSH are essential.
“This training program also served as a platform to improve our students’ competence in mitigating fire, protection system during a fire situation, analyzing the root cause of the fire, using rational approach in addressing emergency situations,” Izzatul uttered.
On a separate occasion, Lena Urmia Soraya, a public health student, admitted that students had difficulties at first due to their first experience extinguishing fire. According to Lena, learning OSH must indeed be directly under professional supervision, as it involves safety concerns.
“I have just tried two different methods of extinguishing fire, and I will be ready to implement it in the future if needed that is. Using the traditional method is fairly easy, but it’s also crucial to use Special Service Tools (SST) like those small extinguishers provided by the government and the fire department to mitigate fire optimally,” she uttered.
