The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) empowered the locals to push youths to foster their entrepreneurial abilities. The empowerment was reflected by hosting an event named Sapa Desa or Sarana Pemberdayaan dan Aksi ke Desa (lit. The Platform of Empowerment and Action to Villages), which was held recently.

The work program belonged to the Public Relations (PR) Division of the Student Executive Board of the Economics and Business Faculty. It had two series of events, with the village fostering program being hosted in Tompo Gunung, Kalongan Area, East Ungaran Sub-District, Semarang Regency, Central Java.

Citra Pratiwi, the Head Organizer, explained that the theme was ‘Empowering the Locals Through Skills to Improve the Economic Creativity and Potential.; The program was embodied in the form of a training program focusing on local products.

“The village has got many small business owners in its own right but it still poses a challenge in the lack of marketing tactics. For that reason, the locals needed to learn about Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling (POAC),” Citra, a junior Management student, stated.

They were also taught how to plan their businesses properly, as well as organize their resources, plan effectively, and evaluate if the business could meet its purpose.

The training program also featured a lecturer from the Economics and Business Faculty, Lenni Yovita, S.E., M.Si., to discuss a topic about digital marketing strategy. During the session, she focused on how to use Instagram in marketing products and creating captivating content.

“This program is still relatively new, but hopefully, we can eventually grow their young entrepreneurial passion and support the Small Medium Entreprises (SMEs) that uphold the village’s identity,” Lenni concluded.

Business Experience for High School Students

The other event was an event entitled BEM Mengajar. It focuses on improving the knowledge and skills of high school students, particularly their entrepreneurial skills. It took place in SMAN 11 Semarang (the 11th Public High School of Semarang).

The Chief of the Student Executive Board of the Economics and Business Faculty, Reza Alvinanto, who was also present as a speaker, stated that students were introduced to the concept of business plans. It aimed to provide them with relevant skills to face future challenges, including business planning, business managing, and self-potential discovery.

“At the end of the event, students were pushed to practice creating their business plans through the means of mind mapping. Hopefully, they can eventually plan their future businesses properly, so they can establish their businesses right away,” Reza explained. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Humas Udinus)
