The Economics and Business Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) conducted a Community Service Program PKM) as a part of its University Tri Dharma Tenets. Recently, a team from the Accounting Department at Udinus conducted a service at a fishing center in Semarang Regency.

The program itself held the topic of ‘Five Capital-based Business Management on Blater Jimbaran Fishing Center SME to Improve Business Sustainability.’ It involved BPR Mekar Nugraha as a partner, as well as the owners of various fishing centers in Blater, Jimbaran village, Bandungan, Semarang Regency, Central Java. It took place at Suharno Fishing Center 2.

The Head of the Accounting Department at Udinus, Hayu Wikan Kinasih, M.Si.., explained that the topic served as a response that SMEs held a big role in improving the national economy. However, many of these fishing center owners had not managed their businesses sustainably and modernly.

“In Jimbaran village, specifically Blater Area, there were sixteen different fishing centers, and the majority of them hadn’t separated their personal and business finances, as well as minimal adaptations to technology,” he explained.

For that reason, on that occasion, those fishing center owners participated in the program, with the learning materials being provided by the community service team. There were three different topics being discussed, including business management and finance report writing, with both of which were presented by Dr. E. Retno Indah Hernawati, S.E., M.Si.

The second topic was delivered by Ririh Dian Pratiwi, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., CFMA., about business evaluation using the Business Model Canvas. While the last topic was related to Five Capitals, with Dr. Anna Sumaryati, S.E., M.Si., and Hayu Wikan Kinansih, M.Si.

Impact on Society

One of the community service team members, Dr. Anna Sumaryati, S.E., M.Si., added that the program was expected to teach these fishing center owners the importance of understanding business management professionally. The community service program also served as a way to raise public awareness that business sustainability does not only focus on financial gains.

“People should also pay attention to both social and environmental aspects. The survey conducted at the end of the program suggests that most of our participants, consisting of fishing center owners, are interested in writing financial reports independently, as well as implementing the concept of five capitals in their businesses,” Hayu concluded.

Through this program, the public was also encouraged to do income diversification and maintain environmental aspects. They can start doing it by spreading fish periodically. (Humas Udinus/Penulis. Ika: Ika. Editor: Haris. Foto: Dok. Tim PKM Akuntansi)
