All first-year students in the Engineering Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) underwent a simulation program for emergency situations. This program was intended to educate those freshmen to protect themselves from disasters such as fire and earthquakes.

Prior to that, the lecturers taught the Health and Work Safety theories (K3) to the 228 new students in the Engineering Faculty. Those students were divided into several classes filled with 25 students each and they were taught step-by-step how to evacuate in detail. On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the I building courtyard, the freshmen were encouraged to carry an injured victim as a form of training.

Widi Burhanudin, the Chief Organizer of the 2023 Dinus Inside Event in the Engineering Faculty, said that the K3 simulation was a part of the Engineering Faculty Dinus Inside. The simulation was organized so the new students could do the safety protocol in emergency situations including earthquakes and fire. Additionally, he also revealed that the freshmen were shown the emergency doors dwelling within the I building.

“We also have hosted a socialization to educate new students regarding the dos and don’ts in emergencies. Two of them were not in a state of panic but they had to make quick decisions. Hopefully, they could understand the step-by-step process in evacuating a victim,” he explained

The simulation featured Ir. Amalia MT, IPM, ASEAN Eng, a lecturer in the Engineering Faculty at Udinus. Despite only being a simulation, the program was not that tense and was understandable by the participants.

During her interview, Ir. Amalia MT, IPM, ASEAN Eng explained that the first-year students were given insight regarding safety Inductionand basic knowledge about K3 so that they could prepare for the worst and make it through. As of right now, the Engineering Faculty has established the health, safety, and environment teams (K3L).

“This type of knowledge is essential for students to remain alert in emergencies. We hope the students can take notes and implement this knowledge in case of emergencies,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/ Alex. Foto: Humas Udinus)
