The Dinus Inside is among many ways for Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) to explore students’ characters to raise concern toward the environment. This concern is raised by spreading 20,000 parrotfish seeds in Jatibarang reservoir with all 3,657 new students of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The seeds were ceremonially handed by Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., (the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau at Udinus) to Widodo (a Secretary of the Sadar Wisata Sukamakmur Group (Pokdarwis). This fish spreading is a part of the Udinus Peduli event, with the entire procession done by boarding a boat and spreading the seeds in the middle of the reservoir. This activity was conducted on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024.
On that occasion, the fish seeds were spread by representatives of new students from all six faculties at Udinus, students were awarded the KIP scholarships. They were also accompanied by representatives of the Students and Scouts Regiment at Udinus.
During his interview, Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., said he was grateful for Udinus to realize this specific event. The seeds are expected to grow quickly so they can be used by the locals.
“This year, we spread a total of 20,000 fish at Jatibarang reservoir. The event is among our many tangible commitments to raising students’ concern toward the environment. This is because these fish seeds will later affect the local community,” he uttered.
For additional information, the second day of the 2024 Dinus Inside involved the academic community at Udinus to collectively donate to various sectors. In addition to spreading 20,000 fish seeds, Udinus planted 4,500 mangroves and gave groceries to several locations.
Galuh Mutiari Zahrani, an English student, stated that this was her first experience of spreading fish seeds.
“To me, this is a crucial lesson for my fellow students and me to be more caring toward nature by conserving it, as well as toward the locals,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Widodo, representing the Sadar Wisata Sukamakmur Group (Pokdarwis), expressed joy to Udinus for providing help in the form of fish seeds. In addition, he also thanked the campus for their concern and attention toward the Jatibarang reservoir.
“This program is beneficial, as the seeds can positively impact the local economy. The seeds also bring us other positive benefits, particularly within the tourism sector at the Jatibarang reservoir,” he concluded.
