It is a misconception that students majoring in Information Systems can only work in the field of Informatics. However, this stigma or stereotype does not apply to Devi Margareta, an alumna from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) who graduated in 2024. Currently, she has a business with millions of rupiah in turnover.
Upon her graduation in 2024, Devi launched her restaurant entitled ‘Bakmie Otentik.’ Her daring nature in establishing a business entitled ‘Bakmie Otentik.’ Her daring nature in establishing a business emerged when he studied Business Management at Udinus.
“Any normal person would think that a student majoring in Information Systems would also have a career in the realm of Informatics. However, every department at Udinus offers classes in entrepreneurship. I learned this step-by-step business knowledge when I took the Business Management Class,” Devi shared.
With her expertise and interest in business management, Devi successfully established Bakmie Otentik. Moreover, Devi, a native of Pontianak, stated that she was fond of cooking and eating noodles. These factors integrated with each other, allowing Devi to be sure that her business would work.
Bakmie Otentik was a product of a collaboration between Devi and her partner, Bagas Aji Isworo, who also graduated from Udinus. In a span of three months since its establishment, the business has seen a positive development. Consumer enthusiasm and turnover are among the contributing factors to this success.
“For the last 3 months, our turnover has reached millions of rupiah. In addition to offline outlets, I also offer an online alternative to order my products. I have also come up with a marketing campaign through our Instagram account at @bakmieotentik,” Devi, born in 2002, shared.
Facing Business Competition
In managing a business, one will see competition as a form of challenge. Business competitors can come up with something innovative, allowing one’s business to undergo a gradual decrease. However, Devi kept upholding her ideals and beliefs to pursue her business honestly.
“I also try to further hone my mentality to face various problems, and I hold my personality that I have been building all these years. If my customer were satisfied, I would feel the same,” she claimed.
According to Devi, it is important to have a strong mentality to establish a business. This is because running a business needs to take risks for it to keep running.
Nevertheless, Devi stated that running a business is not as difficult as one would imagine. If one were to have strong mentality, focus, consistency, and dedication, they would find a way to succeed.
“For those who want to be entrepreneurs, don’t ever be afraid. Don’t ever think that your expertise won’t align with your business! Be dare to take off, and don’t fear failure!
