Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) with its Student Activity Unit (UKM) Karate successfully held the Rector Udinus Karate Championship 2025. It was a championship for martial artists, consisting of 650 college and high school karate athletes. The event took place at Udinus Satria Sports Center, Semarang, for two days from Friday, May 30, 2025.

The championship was fully sponsored by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and the Indonesian Karate-Do Sports Federation (Forki). The championship was participated by athletes from various regions in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The entire procession was opened with a ceremonial promise from the referees and athletes.

The Chief Executive of the Event, Muhammad Wafi Rohman, in his report, conveyed that the championship aimed to find athletes with the best potential. It contained various categories for kindergarten to high school athletes, as well as college athletes. The college category was specifically divided into weight classes, ranging from -55kg to +85kg.

“We want to give them a chance to shine, as they have come this far from regions in Central Java and Yogyakarta. Hopefully, this championship can serve as an annual agenda to gather athletes with immense potential so they may join us in the Karate Unit at Udinus, opening a wide array of new possibilities on the international level,” he uttered.

The championship was opened symbolically by a taiko pounded by the Vice Rector of Student Affairs at Udinus, Prof. Dr. Dra. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., accompanied by the General Secretary of the KONI of Central Java—Achmad Ris Ediyanto, and the General Secretary of the Forki of Central Java—Bayu Eka Erdiya. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Drs. H. Jumanto, M.Pd., the Instructor of the Karate Unit at Udinus, was also present.

During her opening speech, Prof. Kusni emphasized that the championship was a tangible commitment from Udinus to supporting young athletes. With excellent facilities owned by Udinus, she hoped for the athletes to display their best performances.

“As it is commonly known, Udinus houses many athletes. We provide our most talented athletes with scholarships up to their graduate studies, as accepted by one of our athletes, Hera Irnandha. This is done to ensure our contributions to society,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Achmad Ris Ediyanto, the General Secretary of the KONI of Central Java, expressed his appreciation to Udinus for hosting this event as a means for these athletes to hone their talents and abilities. The KONI of Central Java also expressed its gratitude to Forki for facilitating referees and judges.

“Through this championship, these athletes could showcase the skills that they had learned in their respective dojos. This kind of even aligns with one of KONI’s goals, namely, to see the development of young karate athletes, especially students,” he uttered.
