The Student Executive of the Computer Science Faculty (BEM FIK) at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) developed a digital garbage house in Semarang. The event was held to implement the circular economy in Sambiroto.

The event, held in June of 2023, involved fifteen students led by Farah Yuniar Alin Raihatuzzahra. They undertook community service in the Resik Mandiri Landfill Site (TPS) located in the Sambiroto, Semarang.

They had planned various strategies for developing Sambiroto to be an independent urban village. First, those thirteen students instructed by Galuh Wilujeng Saraswati, M.Cs., a lecturer from the Computer Science Faculty at Udinus, would implement an Independent Sustainable waste-based digital garbage house. In this phase, they would develop the Resik Mandiri System (SIRESMA) equipped with features such as choosing, storing, measuring, and waste bank noting.

Following the first phase, the second phase continued with improving the economy by implementing the circular economic system in the garbage management sector in Sambiroto. The implementation was done by utilizing the Resik Mandiri Garbage House to its fullest.

“We will target the Resik Mandiri Garbage House in Sambiroto to partner with industries in the third phase. This carefully constructed system is also equipped with an E-Commerce feature to put the recycled garbage on sale,” Farah Yuniar Alin R., the Head of the Student Coaching Organization Program (PPK Ormawa) of BEM FIK at Udinus, explained.

During his interview, Farah added that by engaging in community services, the students would be able to practice their acquired knowledge on campus with the general public. There were three primary problems in developing the Resik Mandiri 3R Landfill Site. Two of these were the fact that the Resik Mandiri 3R Landfill Site was unorganized and the limited knowledge in recycling garbage was also the main factor BEM FIK held a Student Coaching Organization Program (PPKO) in Sambiroto.

“We are hoping the organized plans run properly. The members of BEM FIK are also enthusiastic to participate in this Student Coaching Organization Program,” Farah revealed.

Moreover, Galuh Wilujeng Saraswati, M. Cs, the Instructor of the PPKO conducted by BEM FIK at Udinus, said that the Sambiroto people gave them full support to the activities conducted by BEM FIK. The activities organized by students were planned to resolve the Sambiroto trash problems.

“Several stakeholders helped us in conducting activities in Sambiroto which served as proof that they were very enthusiastic toward our activities. Hopefully, our newly designed SIRESMA could serve as a motivation for them in sorting garbage,” Galuh uttered.
