Training on how to manage references using Zotero officially started a brand-new beginning for Doctoral Management students at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). The training program—featuring experts in reference management—was hosted online on Monday, August 22nd, 2022.
The learning materials were discussed by Julianto Agung Saputro, SE, S.Kom., M.Si, Ak, CA—the Vice Chief I of the Economic Science College Institution of Keluarga Pahlawan Negara Foundation (STIE YKPN). On that occasion, he mainly discussed how to download and operate a reference management program, Zotero. The training program was attended by nine freshmen of the Doctoral Management Department and numerous faculties within the Economics and Business Faculty at Udinus.
At the training program, several prominent figures were also present, including Prof. Vincent Didiek Wiet Aryanto MBA, Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Amron, S.E., M.M., —the Head of the Doctoral Management Department.
During the discussion, Julianto Agung provided practical theory participated by the participants using laptops and other devices. It started with how to install Zotero on Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
“You do not need to rush the installation process, as I will guide all of you one by one so you can follow the next instructions. As a reference management app, Zotero has a user-friendly interface and features,” he explained.
He also added that despite being free software, Zotero possessed numerous excellent features, allowing users to use the software easily. One of those features was simplifying citation processes, such as gathering and organizing citations.
“Another important feature is the journal collaboration. It allows students and faculties to simplify the citation process, making journal writing to become easier and more efficient,” he added.
The following material is how to take references from various websites, including Google Scholar, SSRN, and library catalogs from various universities. All students who participated in the training program received facilities from the campus, namely, classrooms on the fifth floor of the I building, particularly the I.5.6 and 1.5.7 classrooms.
During his opening speech, Prof. Amron expressed his gratitude to Julianto Agung for his presence at the training program. Through this program, students are expected to learn how to use Zotero. Thus, they could soon write their management ideas in a research journal.
