It was such an honor for Selyna Widyadari, an Accounting Student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), to be able to perform in the 2023 Dugderan Festival at Masjid Agung (Grand Mosque) Semarang. That marked her initial debut performance outside the campus and in her hometown, Demak.
In less than a week, Selyna prepared by training intensively with other Dance From Udinus (DFU) members to showcase their phenomenal performance before the mayor and the general public.
The preparation was far from smooth. Despite having a tight schedule, her persistence allowed Selyna to keep practicing and do the best she could.
“Not only am I a member of DFU, but I also happened to be a member of the Accountancy Student Association. Coincidentally, my training schedule collided with a work plan causing me not to train for a little while. Moreover, adjusting time to practice was difficult since there were additional movements. Despite these obstacles, I managed to keep up and practice optimally after fulfilling the work plan,” she explained.
Her fondness for dancing has been inside of Selyna since she was a child as her mother was also a passionate dancer herself. Selyna explained a singular reason that ignited her interest in dancing.
“One of the reasons I am interested in dancing is because of the opportunity to showcase the cosmetics and outfits in traditional dances, which reflect the local cultural heritage. Additionally, I have been performing dances since my middle school days,” she said.
Selyna, born on July 6th, 2004, honed her dancing skills even further upon entering college by joining DFU Student Activity Unit (UKM). Selyna admitted that she had gained invaluable benefits from DFU, including relations, skills, and knowledge about dancing.
“Moreover, DFU provides their members with a sense of support and familial bonds, which makes me more content when practicing,” Selyna admitted.
Selyna hoped that she could improve both academically and non-academically. Furthermore, she also aimed to become a source of inspiration for other people.
“For those who are interested in art, do not be shy and hesitant to try. You could unearth your talents dwelling inside of you by trying. Udinus could serve as a good environment to develop your hidden talents,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
