The Visual Communication Design Student Association at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro hosted the Mural Competition in an attempt to push high school students to enhance their creativity. The competition was part of a bigger event, the 2023 Dinus Festival (Dinusfest).

The event employed the theme ‘Bright Future with a Glimpse of Hope’ better known as Nawasena. There were dozens of teams from different high schools scattered nationwide participating in the Mural Competition. Each team consisted of four members with the parking spot at the C building being the venue.

During his interview, Rafi Aljabar Fadhillah, the Head of the Visual Communication Design Student Association, stated that they chose Indonesian cartoons as the theme because it was important for high school students to appreciate the beauty of cartoons created by Indonesian animators. According to him, Indonesian cartoons bore many positive moral values, including cultural and scientific moral values. “We have seen that foreign cartoons are slowly taking over our beloved Indonesian cartoons. With their positive moral values, Indonesian cartoons can bring a bright future to the young generation of this country,” Rafi uttered.

Besides that, Rafi also hoped for the mural competition to lure students’ creativity and innovation. “Hopefully, many more high school students will participate in the upcoming 2024 Dinusfest. In addition, we will also aim to develop the concept and theme for the next mural competition,” Rafi uttered.

The Mural Competition was a part of the 2023 Dinusfest. Dinusfest itself is an annual agenda hosted by Udinus. It consists of various contests or competitions competed by high school and college students from Indonesia. The word Dinusfest is an acronym of Dinus Festival. This festival was first hosted in 2015. For additional information, the closing ceremony of this festival will feature a guest star aimed at interns on January 29th, 2023.

The participants came from many cities across the nation, including Medan, Makassar, Pontianak, Denpasar, Jakarta, Surabaya, and Semarang.
