In an attempt to improve its students’ potential, the Department of Japanese Literature at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) sent two students to participate in the international paid internship. Through this program, students will gather priceless experiences as interns at the Narita Airport for a year starting in December 2022.

Those two students were Fajar Shidiq and Muhammad Fadjrin Febrian Aditya. Both of them are students of the 2020 cohort. They managed to get this opportunity to work as an intern in the Land of Rising Sun after going through an administrative selection and an interview session.

Dr. Bayu Aryanto, S.S., M.Hum., the Head of the Japanese Literature Department, reported that this program was a product of collaboration tied between Udinus and the Academic Indonesia Japan Program (JIPA). Furthermore, he revealed that the Japanese Literature Department was always committed to sending its students to participate in an internship program, particularly in Japan.

“During their participation in this program, students will also receive an allowance valued at 170.000 yen or roughly 18 million rupiah,” he explained.

One of the interns, Fajar Sidiq, explained that he would be placed in the Ground Handling position, with handling check-ins and helping cabin crew before the plane take-off being his responsibility. check-ins and helping cabin crew before the plane take-off being his responsibility..

“Hopefully, we will be able to get the best possible working experience, as working in Japan is totally different compared to Indonesia,” he hoped.

Additionally, he added that the Japanese Literature Department had provided immense support through its complexly-designed curriculum, allowing students to participate in an intensive internship program in Japan. Fajar further revealed that the department also routinely informed students concerning internship and scholarship programs.

“This intensive internship program is also based on a government-funded policy, namely, the Independent Campus (MBKM). This policy allows us to convert up to 40 credit hours during our stay there,” he concluded.

Throughout 2022, the Japanese Literature Department has sent five students to participate in a Japanese internship program. Prior to this, the collaboration between Udinus and the Academic Indonesia Japan Program was halted for a while due to the pandemic, and it was opened once again in February 2022.
