Della Christi, one of those fifteen students, admitted that she was nervous prior to the performance. She and her other fifteen friends routinely practiced their dance moves to prepare their best performance for the event, with two of those dances being products of Semarang culture.

“I was excited to perform today, and there were lots of people watching the ceremony. Our week’s worth of training finally came to fruition as we could essentially showcase our best dance moves at the Dugderan ceremony,” she explained.

The dances were showcased to welcome the Mayor of Semarang, Hj. Hevearita Rahayu. She and her entourage were on a horse carriage heading from the city hall to the Grand Mosque of Kauman. There were dozens of horse carriages accompanying the mayor at the convoy. Additionally, the dance performance presented by students from Udinus managed to steal the spotlight of the audience at the mosque.  

At the annual event, it has essentially become a tradition to feature a convoy, and it also marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr. Kusni Ingsih, MM., the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs, hoped for Udinus to contribute more to the city. Moreover, through these dance performances, students could hone their confidence to showcase their talents before the public.

“It is an honor for our campus to perform dances at that annual ceremony. Furthermore, we could also see that the dance performances delivered by those sixteen students were phenomenal, and hopefully, our campus will be able to contribute to this event again next year,” she concluded.
