Having showcased his skills in a competitive sports event, one of the Taekwon-Do athletes from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) got the “Best Men’s Player” title, and not only that but they also brought six gold medals, a silver medal, and a bronze medal. A total of eight medals were presented in the 2023 National Asian Taekwon-Do Federation (ATF) Universitas Indonesia (UI) Taekwondo Championship that took place from June 2nd to June 4th, 2023.
The best achievement deserving more attention was Daffa Fauzan’s accomplishment. Daffa Fauzan was a student of Undergraduate Communication Major at Udinus who emerged as the winner of both the gold medal and the “Best Men’s Player” title in the men’s Kyourigi u-58 class.
Not only that, but Irfan Azis Wibisono and Yanuar Firmansyah Suyanto also contended and won the gold medals in the men’s Kyourigi u-63 class and the men’s Kyourigi u-54 respectively. Both Irfan and Yanuar were students from the Informatics Study Program at Udinus.
The next ones are from other majors, Ninda Regita Pertiwi, a student of the Management Study Program at Udinus, participated and retrieved a gold medal for the Poomsae Red Belt. Gita Asmarani, a student of the Public Health Study Program at Udinus, also took part in the women’s Kyourigi u-57 class and brought a gold medal. Additionally, a student from the Biomedical Engineering Study Program from Udinus known as Belinda Anastasia played and won the gold medal in the women’s Kyourigi u-62 class.
In addition, the silver medal was obtained by a student from the Informatics Study Program under the name of Bima Afkanur Rifqi. Bima competed in the men’s Kyourigi u-64 class, and a student known as Devi Ade Nirmala from the Management Major at Udinus brought the bronze medal in the women’s Kyourigi u-46 class.
One of the athletes, Daffa Fauzan was joyful and proud as his hard work was not in vain. At first, Daffa only aimed to get the gold medal, but his phenomenal performance surpassed his initial goal, bringing him to getting the ‘Best Men’s Player’ title.
“This success is credited to all of the students from the Taekwondo Student Activity Unit and all of the academic community of Udinus. Hopefully, this accomplishment may improve Udinus’ reputation both nationally and internationally,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor III of the Students’ Affairs Sector at Udinus, Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., revealed that she was proud of the taekwondo athletes’ achievements. She added that all national or international academic and non-academic achievements would be appreciated with scholarships. Those accomplishments were proof that the support coming from the students’ affair team was effective.
“We will always give the athletes non-stop full support. We will ensure various facilities and scholarships for the athletes who win national or international championships.
