Preparing for a choir competition in Singapore, Student Choir (PSM) Gita Dian Nuswa (GDN) held a concert bearing the theme Stella Della Speranza (Shining Stars, Raising Hope). The audience was mesmerized by their performance, on July 3rd, 2023.

The concert took place on the 3rd floor of the E building of the Universitas Dian Nuswantoro. PSM Gita Dian Nuswa collaborated with Smepsa Choir, a choir group from a junior high school named ‘SMP Negeri 1 Semarang.’ As a whole, there were 9 songs divided into three different sessions.

In the first session, PSM Gita Dian Nuswa sang O Salutaris, Lux Aeterna, and Elders Drinking Song which was categorized as a mixed choir. Meanwhile, in the second session, Smepsa Choir performed three songs namely, O Sapientia, Cikala Le Pong Pong, and The Fire Dance of Luna. During the closing of the concert, Ugo-Ugo, Cikala Le Pong Pong, and Kembang Janger Dance were also performed by PSM Gita Nuswa. The concert was attended by 300 people and they were hypnotized by the group’s solid dance moves mixed with the harmonic tune of the group’s singing.

The head of PSM Gita Dian Nuswa, Kristin Ishak Kurnia Dwi explained that the concert was a pre-competition event for the 2023 Singapore International Choral Festival. Not only that but this concert was also held to improve the mentality of the choir members.

“The astonishing result of our constant training was shown in that concert. The audience also gave us feedback for our performance, so that we can give our best performance for the 2023 Singapore International Choral Festival,” she said.

The Vice Rector III of the Students’ Affairs Sector, Dr. Kusni Ingsih appreciated the performance of both choir groups. They had given a spectacular performance and she also hoped that they would be the champion of the 2023 Singapore International Choral Festival.

“The performance was phenomenal, the solidarity and the mentality of the choir members have improved. We hope that they will perform better in the 2023 Singapore International Choral Festival and win an international award,” she concluded.
