Running a business corresponding with hobbies is truly everyone’s dream, including Aprilia Bunga Timur Wahyudiar, an Undergraduate Management student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). Bunga’s interest in painting drove her to establish her very own makeup business named ‘Aprilliabw.mua,’ which she established in 2020.
“I think makeup businesses have made their return upon the covid-19 pandemic, as schools and universities begin to hold their graduation parties offline, and the same also happens to other events requiring makeup,” she explained.
Bunga, a student of the 2020 cohort, added that her makeup business was implementing the booking system to avoid the colliding schedule.
“Furthermore, I still am a student so I must occasionally align my working schedule with my campus activities as I prioritize my campus activities over work activities if it happens at the same time,” Bunga enlightened.
The price of her service ranged from Rp.175.000,00 to Rp. 400.000,00 depending on the type of makeup. Bunga revealed that she usually got 4 clients a week in graduation seasons. She commonly used her Instagram account named @aprilliabw.mua to promote her portfolios and business.
As a management student, Bunga, born in 2002, implemented the knowledge she obtained during her study on her business, mainly about branding and marketing which aligned with her marketing interest.
“I have learned many things during my time at Udinus such as gaining credibility and trust to customers, giving good services, improving brand quality, and maintaining a brand in such an intense competition,” Bunga uttered.
Bunga, a secretary of the Wartadinus Student Activity Unit for 2022-2023, also gave tips for managing a business. First, we need to know deeply our business to determine the branding implementation. Second, we need to set our target customers by deciding the segmentation.
“We must gain our curiosity regarding business so we will always be determined to learn. This will improve our brand value. Additionally, do not be afraid to fail because failure is the root of all knowledge in developing our business. Lastly, being honest is the most crucial point in running a business,” she explained.
Bunga emphasized that running a business while being a university student was not a heavy burden. She encouraged her fellow students at Udinus to embark on their entrepreneurial journey early so they could earn priceless experience.
“Just believe that hard work pays off, so please do not be afraid to start your business at such a young age. There will always be time to develop our business and to improve our value,” Bunga concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
