The Humanities Department (FIB) at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Held a seminar about mental health on the last day of the faculty session of Dinus Inside 2023. The event aimed to provide insights into the importance of mental health to the new students of FIB.

The Seminar took place in the E.3 Hall at Udinus Semarang, on September 6th, 2023. Featuring two exceptional speakers, the materials were brought by Ade Bhakti Ariawan S.H, M.A.P, and Damar Anggiafitri Y., S.Psi., M.Psi.

The event commenced with the first material conveyed by Ade Bhakti Ariawan S.H, M.A.P. He discussed the great value that youths had. Ade stated that youths were strong-minded leaders who were brave enough to make changes.

“Young generations can be portrayed as a ball that can be navigated wherever we want. There are two directions of activities namely positive activity and negative activity. Therefore, we need to guide youths or navigate them toward the positive side to achieve something positive as well,” explained Ade.

In addition to that, he also emphasized the importance of passion for young adults. Based on his understanding, it is a myth if someone doesn’t know his/her own interest.

“Passion will never disappear, neither to be searched nor to be found. All we need to do is to realize that passion, exclusively for youths to perceive their passion in the first place,” said Ade.

Moving on to the second speaker, Damar Anggiafitri discussed about the importance of mental health especially for young generations.

“According to basic health research in 2018, more than 12 million residents over 15 years old are feeling depressed,” stated Damar.

She revealed that there were several factors causing these mental disorders such as biological factors, genetics, parenting, and pressure from friends of the same age.

Damar also gave some solutions to ensure that the young generation, particularly freshmen of the humanities department avoid mental disorders. One of his recommendations is self-love.

“Self-love is a crucial part of avoiding mental illness such thing as depression. Moreover, teenagers are supposed to be productive throughout the day while implementing mindfulness therapy,” said Damar. (WTDN/Yasinta. Photo: WTDN)
