Several athletes from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) successfully earned twelve medals, representing the Central Java contingent at the National Student Sports Week XVIII, South Kalimantan.

In detail, there were ten students, gathering three gold medals, three silver medals, and six bronze medals in four different sports branches, including Karate, Taekwondo, Chess, and Wall Climbing. Additionally, Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs, fully supported and congratulated those ten athletes for achieving these glorious medals. Currently, they have received scholarships as a form of appreciation.

“I hereby congratulate these talented athletes for their phenomenal performance at the Sports Week. We conveyed our support by watching these athletes competing,” she uttered.

According to the data provided on Sports Week’s official website, the Central Java contingent triumphantly earned a total of 115 medals, with 34 of them being gold medals, 42 of them being silver medals, and 39 of them being bronze medals. On a different occasion, the closing ceremony took place in the auditorium at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan.

“Through these medals, our athletes have served their purpose in contributing to the Central Java contingent. In spite of not being able to reach the best target, their efforts do not fall in vain, as this could serve as a stepping stone for our athletes to do better next time,” Dr. Kusni added on Monday, November 11th, 2023.

Dinda Putri Lestari, a Taekwondo athlete from Udinus, expressed her gratitude to the campus and the Central Java contingent for supporting her and her fellow athletes to showcase their best performance. At the National Student Sports Week, Dinda competed in the Women’s Kyorugi Under 73Kg Category. She managed to outclass several athletes and emerged as the champion.

“To me, this is a priceless accomplishment. I could not do all of this if it were not for the whole academic community. Hopefully, our scholarships could sustain our academic needs upon embarking on our careers as athletes,” Dinda revealed.

In addition, the 2023 National Student Sports Week XVIII lasted from November 12th to 22nd, 2023. With ‘Independent Accomplishments, Inspiring Sports Talents’ as its theme, the event offered sixteen different sports branches with 209 numbers, and roughly 2.717 students from 34 different provinces in Indonesia participated in it.
