Drone is a small type of plane that can be utilized in any kind of activity. This time, Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) took advantage of drones to enhance agricultural land. Flying a drone is not an easy matter, owing to that, Udinus attained the Remote Pilot in Command Certificate from the Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The certificate is a requirement for drone pilots to be allowed to fly an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) at Indonesian Air Traffic. This qualification is written on the Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) part 107 released by the Ministry of Transportation.
Three Udinus students are qualified after undergoing an examination of twelve modules regarding the allowance to operate an Unmanned aerial vehicle. Those students include Hasan Aminda Syafrudin, a student in the Master of Informatics Program, Bima Rakajati, a bachelor student of Informatics, and Muhammad Bintang Tsaquf, a bachelor student of Information Systems.
Muhammad Bintang Tsaquf explained that the twelve-module exam was supervised directly by the party training organizer who has been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The module which had to be done, was covering theoretical material until practical material. Such as the System Regulation of a Small Drone, Aeronautical Decision Making, as well as the Theory of Meteorological & Meteorological.
“We have also taken a Computer Based Test (CBT) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation through the SIDOPO-GO website. With this certificate, the pilot will be considered to understand the whole regulation that relates to UAV as well as CASR 107,” said Bintang, a student of the 2020 cohort.
Hasan, one of the Staff Center of Excellence at Udinus, also added that currently, Udinus is focusing on the utilization of drones to water plants and other supervision activities. Through this certificate, Udinus is expected to understand more about drone utilization for water and other supervision. Currently, the usage of this drone has been introduced to several groups of farmers at 7 regencies in Central Java Province.
“Surely, this certificate will help the COE research of Udinus, entitling ‘The Alignment of Supply Chain Management and Users for Shallot Commodities along with the implementation of Artificial intelligence (AI) following the Internet of Things and Blockchain-based.’ The research is also a part of the Kedaireka Matching Fund Program in 2022,” said Hasan.
