The Pencak Silat (Indonesian Traditional Martial Arts) Community of Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) triumphed in the national competition by winning 12 medals. They also managed to come out as the 3rd overall champion at the 'Bandung Lautan Api National Pencak Silat Championship 5 in 2023'.
In detail, these 12 medals consist of 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. One of the Udinus athletes who won the gold medal, Jevita Sri Nur, said that her team had given everything to win the competition. According to her, their efforts aim to uphold the name of Udinus, making it proud in the national event. To achieve that, these athletes went through various kinds of training to enhance their techniques, physical, and mental.
"To prepare ourselves for the championship, we followed a special training program from the Udinus IPSI coach. The purpose of the training is to shape techniques, including both our physical and mental condition so as to get maximum results," She explained.
The championship which was held by Sayap Rajawali Event Organizer, competes for the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) trophy. This activity is a forum for lovers of traditional Indonesian martial arts and martial arts athletes. Especially to add relationships and achieve achievements at the national level. Located at UPI Sport Hall Setiabudi Street, Bandung, Indonesia.
General Chairman of Udinus Pencak Silat Community, Galang Wahyu Nugroho, reported that the championship was attended by 2300 participants from various universities across different regions, including Telkom University and Mercu Buana University. He also stated that the 12 earned medals exceeded the target.
“This competition, which is routinely organized, is obliged to be participated by Udinus pencak silat athletes. The purpose of its mandatory is to improve their skills and self-confidence. Despite having recently formed in 2020, our community has earned a lot of achievements. These achievements serve as a foundation to attain another achievement in the future,” said Galang.
