Communication Science Students from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) raised public awareness concerning environmental issues by conducting a campaign entitled ‘Let’s Use Reusable Bottles’ on December 10th, 2023.
As stated by the Head of the Committee, Farah Kinanthi, this disposable plastic packaging can trigger an increase in harmful plastic waste, as plastics in general take a very long time to parse.
“Rotary Club of Semarang Kunthi also took part in this campaign by providing us with a hundred reusable bottles. We also received technical instruction to run this campaign from the President of the Rotary Club of Semarang Kunthi, Dra. Okky Maria, who is also a faculty member of the Department of Communication Science at Udinus,” she explained.
Furthermore, she stated that the campaign began with a socialization on the importance of using reusable bottles as an attempt to reduce disposable plastic waste. Following the socialization, there was an explanation concerning environmental care presented by one of the Tumbler for Environment team members.
“There was also an interactive session, in which the campaign participants could play a spin wheel and answer our questions. In addition, we also conducted a photo challenge by taking a selfie at the park and posting it on social media by tagging our account, @yukbawatumbler," she uttered.
Through this campaign, she hoped for her team to be able to raise public awareness of their surroundings by changing their habits of using disposable plastic bottles.
“From using disposable plastic bottles to utilizing the wonder of reusable plastic bottles,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Ilkom)
