A good nature enthusiast does not only do mountaineering. They would also do several other interesting activities, including wall climbing, rappelling, caving, survival, and orienteering. Orienteering itself is military training concerning navigation. Compared to other activities, orienteering is the least popular one.

An individual must possess the ability and skills to navigate using a compass and a map to finish a route from one control point to the following as soon as possible.

At the 2024 Dinus Festival (Dinusfest), the Aldakawanaseta Unit at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) hosted an orienteering competition dedicated to high school students. There were 31 teams from various cities participated in the Aldaka Orienteering Dinus Festival (AODF) II. Each team consisted of two members and the competition used a scoring system in which participants must be the quickest to be victorious.

“Through this competition, we would like to hone the navigation skills possessed by high school students in using a compass and a map. In total, this competition was participated by 21 men’s teams and ten women’s teams,” Viona Putri Rimbi H, the head of the committee, explained.

Competitive Mindset

Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau, stated that the 2024 Dinus Festival (Dinusfest) served as a platform for high school students to showcase their talents and hold their sportsmanship. In addition to high school students, there were also college students participating in the AODF II.

“Every participant will strive their way to the path of victory. Those participants will someday also understand that in a competition, winning or losing is essential. Thence, students will become more competitive to emerge as the winner. In addition, we have also prepared scholarships for the winner of the AODF II,” Rindra explained.

As a whole, there were 73 kinds of competitions featured this year. Those 73 competitions primarily consisted of sports, art, and scientific paper competitions. In total, there are 6.129 high school students participating in the 2024 Dinusfest, with several of them coming from Manado, Denpasar, Kendari, Pontianak, Riau, Wamena, Aceh, and various regions in Central Java.
