Three films made by Film and Television students from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) successfully proved their quality and earned accomplishments. Those three films garnered the accomplishments at Semarang Gawe Film! several weeks ago. 

The event was hosted by the Service of Culture and Tourism of Semarang and Sineroom. Using the theme ‘Semarang Forever,’ the event primarily focuses on films concerning daily life. For example, the event required the participants to put cultural, culinary, and spatial aspects of Semarang in their films. 

In detail, the film entitled To Be With You by Big Bang Theory Film won first place in the Best Ensemble Player category. Then, The Sound from Yesterday by Vultura Films also garnered first place for Best Picture Editing and third place for Best Direction. Moreover, Basuki and the People He Met by Sykill Production claimed second place for Best Picture Editing.

Amelia, the director and the scriptwriter of To Be With You, explained that the film told the story of an old couple. Through this film, she and her team aimed to convey the importance of appreciating our loved ones. This message was conveyed through the hardships gone through by the protagonists in their daily lives. 

“During the development process, we focused on the storyline and the actors. Through our dedication to focusing on these two aspects, we managed to garner first place in the Best Ensemble Player category, in which actors are the most essential factors,” she uttered. 

On a different occasion, Axel Arya Pratama, the producer of The Sound from Yesterday, mentioned that his film aimed to raise awareness of the flood phenomena in North Semarang. Thus, the government becomes more aware in handling the flood disasters. 

“Hopefully, our film can be a learning reference for our fellow students and motivate other students to follow our footsteps,” he hoped. 

Guidance Provided by Faculty Members

The Semarang Gawe Film event was hosted in October 2023. It lasted for two months. During those two months, participants would attend technical meetings and workshops, as well as develop their films for the contest.  

“We involved ten Film and Television students in making these films. During the production process, students would also receive guidance from faculty members,” Axel uttered.

One of the faculty members, Ratna Asih Setyaningrum, M.Hum., expressed her pride in the accomplishments achieved by her students. According to her, this contest served as an essential experience for students before embarking on their careers in the industry. 

“We are also open to students with the intention of consulting their works. Hopefully, these accomplishments could be a good beginning to achieve many more accomplishments in the future,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. FTV Udinus)
