In an attempt to improve the competence of its junior faculty members, Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) hosted a seminar discussing an innovative learning model. In addition, this seminar also served as a step for Udinus to be empowered and hold a sense of character.

Those junior faculty members participated in the seminar, with Prof. Dr. Ir. Illah Sailah, MS, a professor from Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), as the speaker. The professor discussed several topics at the seminar, including the role of college institutions, the constant change of education, and obstacles in becoming a successful lecturer in the era of change. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., the Chancellor of Udinus, was present to open the seminar on the sixth floor of the I building. Other prominent figures also made an appearance at the seminar, namely, Prof. Dr. Supriadi Rustad, M.Si. (the Vice Chancellor I of Academic Affairs), Dr. Kusni Ingsih M.M. (the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs), and Dr. Pujiono, S.Si., M.Kom. (the Head of the Learning and Curriculum Development).

Currently, the innovative learning model aims to develop students’ thinking skills to be more independent, creative, and innovative. Thus, students will be able to produce new ideas, resolve problems, and apply their knowledge in real life.

As stated by Prof. Dr. Supriadi Rustad, M.Si., the seminar served as a form of motivation for junior faculty members to be more passionate in their jobs, as well as to improve their teaching skills.

“We will also encourage our juniors to improve their career performances. Hopefully, this seminar could give those junior faculty members good insight regarding their teaching abilities,” Prof. Dr. Supriadi Rustad uttered.

At the seminar, the professor also explained two challenges every lecturer had to face in the era of change. Those two challenges mainly encompassed the constant change in workforce demand and the dynamicity of learning outcomes . This is because universities currently serve as a platform not only for students but also for faculty members to learn.

“They must be able to be creative on campus; thus, they can shape their future to be better. In order for this to occur, universities must not only change but also possess strategical transformations,” the professor concluded.
