Mental health is a topic that is currently of great concern to all audiences, including in the college environment. Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) also makes various efforts to provide mental support to its students. One of the efforts was carried out by the Udinus Career Center by organizing a ‘Mental Health Seminar'.
The seminar, which took place on Friday, March 8, 2024, carried the theme ‘Self Love, Make Yourself Shining and Be More Confident'. Located in the auditorium of H.7 Udinus Building Semarang, the seminar presented two speakers proficient in their fields respectively. Going deep toward self-love whilst increasing self-confidence.
The material on self-love was presented by Udinus Career Center Psychologist, Damar Anggiafitri Y., M.Psi, Psychologist, C.H., C.Ht. In her presentation, she explained the survey results that on a scale of 0-100, Indonesian women are placed at rank 52. Men are at number 53 and it shows that Indonesian women and men are experiencing a self-love crisis.
“70% masyarakat Indonesia yang berusia di bawah 35 tahun sering berpura-pura bahagia untuk menyenangkan orang lain. Sementara itu, sebanyak 95,4% individu berusia 16-24 tahun menyatakan pernah mengalami gejala kecemasan dan 88% gejala depresi,” jabarnya.
Therefore, she invites students to further improve self-love by paying attention to the existing aspects. Namely self-cherishing, self-acceptance, self-persistence, self-responsibility, and self-restraint.
Furthermore, she emphasized that self-love does not mean selfishness. In fact, self-love creates self-conscious boundaries about one's ability capacity.
“Then, how are you going to love yourself? First, it is necessary to know oneself, and then to realize that there is no perfect human being. It's okay to be wrong and fail. Stop comparing yourself to others because each person has a distinct situation. It's better to compare the present ourselves with the past version of ourselves. Hang out with friends who have a positive influence," she explained.
Udinus Commitment
The second session was followed by a presentation from the Immoderma Clinic Doctor, Dr. Endang Widanti on self-care. Taking care of ourselves is also part of self-love. Apart from what's inside of our body, self-care is also done from the outside by maintaining physical appearance.
"At the age of students, many may be busy with activities on campus. Not a few of them who enjoy this activity forget to take care of their health so various health problems and skin problems arise regardless of their young age," said Dr. Endang.
As a beauty clinic doctor, she also discusses facial skin care. "Other than the inside, the outside appearance also needs to be repaired. At least diligently wash your face and use sunscreen. Don't forget to also drink more water," she said.
Head of Service of Udinus Career Center, Dr. Sendi Novianto, S.Kom., MT, said that this seminar was one of the embodiments of Udinus' commitment to providing soft skills to its students, as well as providing mental strength for each student.
“When students face problems, there is a place called Udinus Career Center which provides student counseling. Whether it's a lecture problem or a personal problem," stated Dr. Sendi.
Through this seminar, he's hoping that students will gain more insight into self-love and mental health to minimize unwanted cases. He also advised all Udinus students not to despair and to embrace each other.
"To all Udinus students, don't get discouraged, don't be shy, and don't ever bully others. Keep embracing each other and caring for each other," he concluded. (PR Udinus/Ika. Photo: PR Udinus)
