Having graduated from the Accounting Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) in 2015, Abbelya Desyanidha Yasena started her career at Gudang Garam, TBK as an Accounting and Financeofficer. Initially, she was placed in Solo. However, in 2020, she was moved to the Semarang branch.

During her career as an accounting and financeofficer, Abbelya, commonly known as Abbel, primarily handled financial and reporting matters. It included handling Cash at the Bank and Petty Cash.

"Moreover, I also did monthly and annual budgeting , reported taxes, paid bills to vendors, and ensured every financial report was clear and balanced,” she continued.

After giving birth to her first child in 2021, Abbel, born in 1992, decided to retire early to focus on her child. Months later, she established a business by becoming a distributor of a furniture company owned by her friend. This would eventually lead to Abbel being interested in learning about furniture.

“In November of 2022, I established my furniture brand named ‘Sakhayu,’” she revealed.

Abbel’s Business Journey

In running her furniture business, Abbel admitted that there were many hardships she had to endure. There were things Abbel must think deeply about. For example, how to make a good product at a reasonable price. She also had to manage her way to ensure that her product hit the target market, as well as ensure customer satisfaction. Furthermore, it was also important for her to create a unique product competing in this era.

In addition, she also revealed that ensuring employees’ welfare was also important. This is because their work performances depend greatly on their wage.

“I think human resources are among the most important assets. It is them who essentially make this business running and improving after all,” she emphasized.

Her brand operates both offline and online. It can ship its products to all regions within Indonesia. For her brand to run on its maximum capacity, Abbel always keeps her eyes on the current market trends, so she can determine which product is going to dominate the market. Her brand also provides custom furniture model service as desired by the customers.

The experience and knowledge she gathered during her studies at Udinus allowed her to do various things for her business, including cost accounting.

“Determining the underlying price, selling price, calculating the asset values, and cash flow, and creating a financial report are all my responsibilities. In addition, I also know how to see market trends, how to make effective and efficient decisions, and how to ensure customer satisfaction. I learned all of these during my studies in the Accounting Department at Udinus,” she explained.

In maintaining her business, Abbel mentioned that dedication and persistence were needed. Additionally, she also stated that determination and commitment to learning were also necessary.

“No matter how big a business is, it used to endure countless failures. From those failures, we can learn and further improve. Also, do not easily get satisfied and keep your commitment to learning,” she uttered.

Moreover, Abbel also advised students to keep learning and not to waste their youth. She advised students to further gather knowledge and use their hobbies as a way to make money. It takes a solid determination and willingness to take risks for a business to take off.

“True entrepreneurs will make job opportunities, instead of waiting for them. You don’t need to wait until you are old enough to be successful. If you can do it now, why even bother waiting?” advised the woman who likes to read, cook, and travel, and swim.

For the time being, Abbel would like to aim for an even wider market share, as well as expand her business across the country. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
