Table tennis athletes from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) once again brought their alma mater a good image. These five athletes have successfully earned four gold medals and a bronze medal at a national competition held by the Committee of the Indonesian Table Tennis Association (PB.PTMSI).

The athletes were able to compete against other 825 athletes from 30 different provinces in Indonesia. At the championship, there were 16 different categories. The championship itself spanned a week from Monday, June 6th, 2024. It was officially opened by the Chief of the Indonesian National Sports Committee at Baywalk Mall Pluit, North Jakarta.

At the event, Affan Mauludana Pratama triumphantly claimed the gold medal in the mixed doubles category. Furthermore, he also achieved a silver medal in the men’s double category. Cindy Marcella also managed to earn both gold medals and bronze medals in the women’s doubles and women’s group categories respectively. Another athlete, Dwi Oktaviany, also brought a gold medal in the mixed doubles category, a silver medal in the women’s doubles category, and a bronze medal in the women’s group category.

Several other athletes were also able to clinch their hands on numerous medals, with Siti Aminah securing a silver medal and a bronze medal in the women’s single and women’s group categories respectively. Another student, Hafidh Nuur Annafi was also capable of standing his ground accomplishing a silver medal in the men’s doubles category, as well as another two bronze medals in the mixed double and men’s singles category. They are all Management students of the 2023 Cohort at Udinus.

Bringing a Good Image to the Alma Mater

Similar to what her fellow athletes felt, Siti Aminah expressed her pride for garnering medals at a prestigious event, allowing the alma mater or campus to have better images. Aminah’s gold medal was a product of her dedication and effort during training. Her astounding feats led the East Java contingent to emerge as the grand champion.

“At the competition, we managed to win two gold medals, four silver medals, and three bronze medals. Those medals brought our contingent to be the grand champion,” he revealed.

"We would not be able to accomplish these feats, had we not received any support from our coaches, officials, and the Student Affairs Bureau. Without omitting our focus on our studies, the athletes were constantly provided instructions to finish our studies," Aminah explained.

In response to this achievement, Dr. Rindra Yusianto, M.T., the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau at Udinus, expressed his utmost pride. According to him, non-academic feats were also as important as the academic ones.

“Every student has their own passion, and we are committed to supporting the positive aspects of it. We have routinely given these athletes instruction to finish their studies, while at the same time being accomplished on both national and international levels,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris.
