Transparency, security, and participation are among the most important aspects of holding an election. This specific phenomenon inspired Informatics students from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) to create an innovative app. ‘Pilihku’.

Pilihku is developed by five students through the Student Creativity Program (PKM). It is a website developed solely for the purpose of improving the quality of elections in various institutions.

“We equipped this device with a face-recognition technology, allowing the voting process to be more secure and transparent. The user-friendly interface and layout allow the voter to understand how the app works,” Alfina Latifa Maysasra, the developer team explained.

Alfina added that face-recognition technology was useful to prevent double votesso the election could run securely and fairly. During the voting process, ‘Pilihku’ also provides various comprehensive information, including the vision, mission, and track records of each candidate.

“We also installed various interactive features, including quizzes, which can help voters in choosing the right candidate for them. The feature will offer recommendations based on preferences and answers during the quiz,” Alfina added.

In addition to the team leader, there were also four other team members, including Gata Anindhita Zalianingrum, Nurul Baroroh, Aditya Wulan Pratama, and Dhimas Gymnastiar.

During the development process, research regarding e-voting systems based on facial recognition was also conducted. The results show that PilihKu is more innovative and well-equipped with data transparency, quiz features, and a security system.

On a separate occasion, Nurul Anisa Sri Winarsih, S.Kom., M.Cs., the supervising instructor, added that the developer team was funded Rp. 8 million through the Student Creativity Program. Based on the latest data, the development of PilihKu is approaching 85 percent, and currently undergoing the perfecting phase.

“Through this funding program, we are currently proposing the patent for this app. Hopefully, this app will be able to improve voters’ participation, as well as improve the entire process to be more informative, fair, and transparent,” she concluded.

The app will also continue to be assessed at the Progress Assessment of Student Creativity Program (PKP2) and is expected to improve the quality of Indonesian leadership. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
