On the second day of the 2024 Dinus Inside of the Humanities Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) hosted a public lecture dedicated to freshmen on Thursday, September 10th, 2024. On that occasion, three alumni of the Humanities Faculty at Udinus shared their experience of studying at Udinus.
Azizah Mauliba Erzad, S.S., M.Pd., the first speaker, is currently teaching at a public university in Kudus Regency, Central Java.
Two of those alumni are instructors at prominent universities in Kudus Regency and Semarang. Those two alumni were Azizah Maulina Erzad, S.S., M.Pd., an alumni from the English Department at Udinus, who teaches at UIN Kudus, and Maharani Patria Ratna, S.S., M.Hum., an alumni of the Japanese Literature Department at Udinus, who teaches at Undip Semarang.
At the lecture, Azizah shared her experience as a student at Udinus. She also encouraged freshmen to routinely pursue their interests, so that they could enjoy their time as university students.
“You must all keep your communication intact with faculty members, as this will help you whenever you pose difficulties in learning and must contact faculty members. Also, don’t be afraid to pursue your passion here on campus to keep you away from depression,” she encouraged.
Meanwhile, Maharani also stated that it was never too late to apply for scholarships. Maharani herself was an alumna with the opportunity to get scholarships, allowing her to improve her academic performance.
“Scholarships are important for all students. With scholarships, students are pushed to prove their worth for those scholarships. For that reason, don’t ever hesitate to ask your faculties concerning scholarships, as they are the ones who truly understand these things,” Maharani uttered.
The public lecture also featured Cut Aisha, S.Tr.Par., an Alumna of the Hotel Management Department. Currently, she works in the hospitality industry. On that occasion, Aisha emphasized the importance of joining student organizations. Through student organizations, students will be able to gather experiences for their provisions to work in the industry.
“There will be many positive things in student organizations, including soft skills. Unlike in high schools, students will not only focus on conventional lectures in classrooms,” she concluded.
Alvian Rama Putra, the head organizer of this public lecture, hoped for this lecture to give the freshmen insight into their future job prospects.
“Through this lecture, we want to give the freshmen ideas concerning what must be done in their studies. On top of that, the freshmen must also know their future job prospects,” Alvian, an English student, hoped.
The lecture went enthusiastically, with many freshmen raising their hands to ask questions.
