The Humanities Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) provided insight to students concerning the importance of building leadership, as well as mental health for youths. The insight was packaged in the form of a seminar as a series of agendas of the faculty session of the 2024 Dinus Inside. The seminar was held on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.
The first speaker was Monica Niken Wulandari, M.Pd., a lecturer at the Police Academy of Semarang. On that occasion, Monica discussed the idea of transformational leadership and effective strategies for Generation Z. She explained that a good leader is one with the capability of bringing changes and managing teams.
“Successful leaders are those who inspire others to improve with them. As freshmen, it is important for you to hone your leadership through campus organizations,” Monica uttered.
In addition to leadership matters, Monica also advised the freshmen to be more careful using social media in this day and age. “Generation Z must use social media wisely, as everything we show to the public on social media will heavily impact ourselves and others,” she uttered.
The second speaker was Anggiafitri Yulissusant, S.Psi., M.Psi., a psychologist from Udinus. At the seminar, Anggiafitra discussed the feeling of loneliness among youths. This feeling is often caused by several factors, including personal and environmental ones.
“To handle loneliness, one must get to know themselves, learn to express emotions, and do positive things. Students can build connections with either their fellow students on campus or faculty members,” she said.
Alvian Rama Putra, the head of the committee of this event, hoped for this seminar to inform new students about leadership and how to reduce their loneliness.
“Hopefully, this seminar could provide students with a new perspective and awareness. Through this seminar, we want to show the freshmen that Udinus has a positive atmosphere, which allows students not to be depressed,” Alvian, an English Student, explained,
As additional information, the Dinus Inside itself is a student orientation event for freshmen, with a total of 3,567 freshmen participating in the event. The event, which lasts for three days, aims to introduce freshmen to the academic systems and various important aspects on campus. (Humas Udinus/Iwan WTDN. Foto: Humas Udinus)
