Since her childhood, Yulika Yuke, a Communication Science student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) has had a particular interest in modeling and dancing. At that time, modern dancing had already seen a major development. Yuke’s dancing and modeling journey lasted until when she was in middle school. She once took a break from modeling and dancing to focus on becoming a flag bearer as a middle schooler. By the time she was a high schooler, Yuke made a return to her dancing talent.
“Upon graduating from high school, I became interested in line dancing. Line dancing itself is a classical dance with its own dedicated direction and count. At that time, I often watched videos of people performing Latin dance, and it looked fun and cool,” Yuke shared.
As she pursued the art of line dancing, Yuke became motivated to sign herself up for competitions, including those on regional, national, and international levels. Through her participation, Yuke has accumulated numerous accomplishments. Those accomplishments encompass a gold medal at the 2023 FORDA Open Class Line Dance of Central Java, first place at the 2023 IWAPI Line Dance Group of Central Java, first place at the 2024 FORD Open Line Dance Single of Banyumas, and many more.
Yuke’s recent achievement is first place at the 2024 UCWDC Line Dance Competition of Asia-Pacific, particularly in the New Comer Category. It was an international competition hosted by the Joyclub Dance Academy and the United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC). The competition took place in the Perdana Ballroom, Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Despite only having limited time to prepare, Yuke was still persistent and did her best, allowing her to achieve the best possible results at the competition.
“For this event, I only had a month of preparation time. I used this limited amount of time to routinely practice with my friends by memorizing the mechanism of our movements. Once we were done, we practiced to get our hands to be more stylish,” Yuke explained.
Important Things Worth Noting
During her journey as a line dancer, Yuke, born in 2003, stated that her physical durability and strength were what hindered her from perfecting the movement. For that reason, it is important for a line dancer to keep exercising and maintain their diet.
“Not only that, there are also other supporting factors, for example, a line dancer can watch videos of other line dancers as a reference. This will allow them to build their courageous spirit, learning motivation, and desire to compete. Additionally, it is also important for a line dancer to learn the movement technique, which means that training is not only the important thing for a line dancer to do,” she explained.
In addition to line dancing, Yuke also pursues her activity as a beauty enthusiast in various beauty communities, including Somethinc Town, the Bluebell Community, Improve with Implora and the Beauty Channel. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
